Levi is an award-winning writer and director based in southeast London, known for their queer shorts and sci-fi web series, The Smell of Cut Grass, An Eighth of Him and Visions of a Vivid Life. A linguistics student, film curator and print-published journalist with essays at The Companion, Film Inquiry and The Indiependent. They’re now developing feature films including the coming-of-age drama, Recipes for Mica Halliday recognised by British Film Institute and Film London and Bodies Born To Die. Their films have travelled around the globe from London to LA, Hawaii, and Korea. Screening at Academy Award, BAFTA and Canadian Screen Academy qualifying festivals.

Their career lifted off with a critically acclaimed sci-fi web series Visions of a Vivid Life made on a micro-budget won over 20 awards and nominations at international web festivals. The Smell of Cut Grass premiered and ran for a number of weeks at the Prince Charles Cinema in central London, it was screened for London Screen Academy as part of their prestigious masterclass series which has hosted the likes of Academy Award-winning director Guillermo Del Toro. The film was released on online in December 2023 and accumulated 40,000 views in it’s first week. An Eighth of Him funded by the BFI Network was selected for Film London’s shorts showcase in April 2023 and made its world premiere at Inside Out 2SLGBTQ+ Film Festival in Toronto, before it’s UK premiere in competition at the prestigious OSCAR, BAFTA and BIFA qualifying Leeds International Film Festival. Later it went on to screen Boston, MA and London, winning Best Drama at Sara Putt Associates annual foundation awards.

Other credits include a number of ads, documentaries, micro-shorts and guest episodes on other series. After spending a handful of years as a cinematographer on documentaries and shorts, their debut narrative, an experimental short Ingénue premiered at Syn Festival Edinburgh in 2019, previous alumni of the festival include Academy Award-winning film composer, Hildur Guðnadóttir. Recently, they have also made ads and short-form work for Live Nation, G Network and RNIB.

Alongside filmmaking, they have successful careers as a film writer, photographer and curator, with print and online work in essays, articles, interviews and short stories. Levi is currently developing two feature film projects including Recipes for Mica Halliday, a romantic drama with Euras Films. It was selected by Film London for the New Talent Strand at Production Finance Market at London Film Festival 2022. The film captured ongoing interest from BFI, FILM 4, BBC Films, Mubi and others. Though their films are diverse in genre, Levi is known for bringing to life unique worlds and atmospheric environments populated by emotional characters struggling to find their identity. Levi is currently studying a BA in Linguistics and Culture at Birkbeck: University of London.
